Located near the border with the United States, Abbotsford is a wonderful city in British Columbia. Abbotsford found itself turning into a place in a comprehensive response to the Gold Rush in 1848. When the Royal Engineer John Cunningham Maclure applied for a Crown grant, the 160-acre land he got turned into the Abbotsford that would go through several developmental episodes–including the merging with the Sumas district in 1972 and District of Matsqui in 1995–to become the city we know and love today.
